Quick Start Guide

Step by step to step to start using your Scout.

Step 1 - Login or create an account for the Scout app at https://scoutbuoy.org

Step 2 - Look for your Scout in the settings page, the number should match the number on the beacon antenna beacon, e.g. BY034…

Step 3 - Put the beacon inside the buoy and bring the unit outside to a place with a clear view of the sky.

Step 4 - Remove the magnetic collar, this turns on the telemetry beacon and you will see a faint red light in the antenna blink. There should be a message in the app within 5 minutes, usually sooner. It can take as long as 20 minutes if conditions are poor. This can happen if Scout can’t connect to the Iridium satellite network. Try to put Scout in as open an area as possible, being next to buildings or walls can negatively impact the signal strength.

Step 5 - Wait to receive a few messages before you deploy your Scout, letting it run on the transit out to a case is a good practice. Confirming that you’ve received multiple messages (3-5) ensures the system is working as expected
